Let's go to the Beach!

                                  

Welcome to our week at the beach!

                                        

After introducing our theme, we ventured outside to the playground where we played with sand in the playhouse...

Chatted with our friends...

 

Played with our dump trucks...

                                            

And played with our friends on the slide...

                                            

After having lots of fun on the playground, we went back inside to read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Shell.

To help us understand the sequence of the story, we fed the old lady all the items she swallowed as they occurred in the story...

Then, we each took turns filling in the sequence board with the pieces the old lady swallowed. It was fun recalling the order of events and seeing what happened at the end of the story...the old lady burped and made a sandcastle!

Since the old lady burped up a sandcastle at the end of the story, we continued on to science where we asked the question, "Which sand will make the best castle?" We predicted whether dry sand, damp sand, or soupy sand would make the best castle. Together, we tried making a castle out of each type...

                                                    

And we were so excited to see that the damp sand worked the best!...

At centers today, we all had the chance to play with play dough and shells, make different letters and other creations...

And play our favorite matching game...

Since the old lady swallowed a crab in the story, we made a crab out of our hand prints for art! We also added sand paper to the bottom for extra texture. We did a great job taking turns and following directions.

The end result was super duper cute!

We closed our day by singing our new "To The Beach" song to the tune of "London Bridges." It was another amazing day in the Chatty Caterpillars classroom.
