At the Beach with Duck and Goose

Another fun day in the Chatty Caterpillars' class today as we continued learning about the beach!  To start off the morning, we went through our normal daily routine of singing the good morning song, talking about the date, and figuring out the weather.  Miss Hannah taught us a new song called "Take Me Out to the Ocean" before we lined up to go outside.

As usual, we had a great time singing on our way to the playground and playing with our friends in the different classes here at camp.  We especially loved swinging on the jungle gym, going down the slide, and putting on a show for our classmates!

After washing our hands and having snack, we gathered together in language circle to read Duck and Goose Go to the Beach by Tad Hills.  The story followed two friends, Duck and Goose, who go on an adventure from their home in the meadow to a beach far away!  We enjoyed listening to the story and looking at the pictures before comparing and contrasting beaches and meadows on a Venn Diagram chart!

For science we predicted and learned about what happens when rocks rub against each other: they make sand!  Everybody had a chance to shake a jar full of sugar cubes that created a white powder at the bottom to see how sand is made.  After our experiment, we got to rub real rocks together to make our own real sand.

During art we made our own beach in a bottle.  Everyone received a plastic bottle with sand at the bottom and got to fill it up with shells, seaweed, confetti, glitter, and different sea animals.  Once our bottles were ready, we filled them up with blue water!  It was so fun to be able to take home our own piece of the ocean.

After science and art we played at centers until lunch.  We had so much fun playing beach bingo, making shells out of play-doh and of course playing our favorite memory matching game.  When it was time to clean up, we welcomed our special guests...

...that's right!  Today our parents and friends got to join us for lunch!  Everybody's parents came and we enjoyed eating lunch with them and teaching them some of our favorite songs to close out the day.
