Center Time - Week 4

For this week, "At the Beach," we will incorporate communication skills during our center time.

Dramatic Play: Use our imagination to "go fishing" at the beach for puzzle pieces
  • Communication Goal: Interact with peers; increase vocabulary; use sentences to describe role in the play activity.
Literacy: Beach bingo
  • Communication Goal: Identify and label various beach themed objects, counting, and observing patterns
Sensory Table: Play at the water table using boats and toy animals, or sand and beach toys
  • Communication Goal: Use sentences to describe texture and actions, spatial awareness, and practice taking turns
Small Manipulatives: Spell out our names using sea shells, make fish from play-dough
    • Communication Goal: Turn taking, fine motor skills, sharing, vocabulary, and following directions
We will also have various cues available in the classroom:
    • Literacy: Various books about the beach available for reading
    • Visual Cues: Pictures that go with the lyrics of songs; pictures from our stories to use for sequencing; props and prompts (puppets, motions, vocabulary words, etc.)
    • Written Cues: Picture cards with name of common objects one might take to the beach, a diagram of the "-oat" word family.  There will also be written cues regarding daily schedule, simple directions, and classroom rules.
    • Graphic Organizers: We will use multiple diagrams during our lessons including prediction charts for our science experiments, a venn diagram to sort items found at the beach versus a meadow, and a graphic organizer to map out the parts of a story (characters, setting, problem, and resolution).
